Natural Raw Baby
Raising a raw baby can prove challenging in today’s society, though the benefits far out way the difficulties. It’s important that people who are going to be around the child are aware of your position on raising your baby raw. Others don’t have to understand or agree with your approach but they must respect it none the less.
When your baby is newborn, she’ll probably be strictly
breastfeeding
for several months. The longer, the better. During this time she will not need any other foods or liquids for nourishment. At some point, usually around 5 months, she will start teething. There are some great natural alternatives to plastic baby rings to help with the discomfort. Celery and cucumber sticks are the perfect texture for gums and she can’t yet chew pieces off. Another great choice is frozen carrot sticks. The coldness will help numb the gums and relieve pain. This is a good way to begin introducing new simple tastes to your raw baby.
When setting out to begin solid foods, it’s best to go slow and keep it simple. Transition while you are still breastfeeding to insure adequate nutrition. Start with mono meals of soft fruit or mono smoothies that can easily be swallowed. Soft fruits like bananas, pear, papaya, mango and melon are excellent options. You can mash them up or blend them. Let your baby taste everything individually. You’ll probably get some funny faces for awhile as they grow use to the tastes. Until your baby has teeth and the ability to chew, I wouldn’t suggest introducing foods that would normally require being broke down. As long as your baby is eating foods uncooked and rich in natural water, there shouldn’t be a need to drink water unless they desire to do so. Small portions of raw coconut water/ milk can be added, but I wouldn’t suggest nut milk. Eating all parts of a food provides all the necessary components for optimum digestion, whether blended or whole. Watch your baby’s reaction to different foods and discover which foods develop a positive response. Babies shouldn’t be fed salty, spicy or unnaturally sugary foods, and never honey. When your raw baby reaches a stage where they are eating fruits well, you can try adding some greens into a blended fruit smoothie. Experiment with various raw foods to see what works best for them. Remember as
Dr. Graham
recommends, "variety is best achieved throughout the seasons, not necessarily at mealtime," The habits your baby learns now will remain with them through life so make the best of today for your raw baby.
