Raw Meat Diet For Cats
Cats eat meat, plain and simple and that is why a raw meat diet for cats is ideal. Their bodies and teeth were designed to break down meat and flesh. Commercial pet foods are devoid of the essential nutrients cats need to live a healthy life. We must once again look at what nature intended for our furballs and get as close to it as we can. Cats still have the instinct to hunt and kill their prey. My Mom’s cat is the best hunter I’ve ever seen, she catches everything from birds and mice to rats on the roof and baby cottontails. This may seem harsh to us, but it’s the way it’s suppose to be. Have you ever seen a cat eat a mouse? They eat everything except the tail, face and a small part of the insides. They need all the rest to have a balanced meal. When cats get proper nutrition they not only don’t develop diseases, but they have brilliant eyes and soft silky shiny fur and reproduce with less difficulty.
Pottenger’s experiment was a study done on approximately 900 cats and their diets. They were placed in two control groups one of which was fed cooked foods and the other raw meat diet for cats over a period of about 10 years. The cats in the raw food group had good bone structure, shiny fur and were parasite and disease free in addition, they reproduced without problems. The cats in the cooked food group had all sorts of issues with disease and such and eventually some stopped reproducing at all. This ought to be a prime example of what the correct diet can yield for our pet’s future.

My cat is nearly 20 years old, and she’s not in perfect health. Why? Because I didn’t know what I was feeding her for so many years was the wrong thing. Many years ago, I began a partial switch to cooked chicken then switched again to the raw meat diet for cats. Her health got better and she was more spunky, however as living situations changed, I found myself once again feeding her the gross canned food and she started getting worse. She’s always been a picky eater- ha! What cat isn’t? However, she took to eating raw very easily and loved it. She’s now back on the raw meat diet and doing very well. She also loves her fresh grass and catnip. Plus, even at her age she still catches an occasional rodent or lizard.
If we want to keep our companions healthy, it’s time to change to a raw food diet for cats. It’s not as difficult as you may first think. Start with little chunks of raw meat at body heat temperature and see how they do with it. Try various types, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, etc. More than likely she’ll have a favorite. You can eventually give her larger chunks then perhaps an entire chicken leg when her jaw is accustomed to chewing it.
