You Need PURE AIR!

We need pure air in order to maintain health. Our lungs are incredible organs that do loads of work in order to help bring oxygen to our entire bodies. Polluted air can cause our lungs to age quicker and have less capacity furthering problems of asthma, bronchitis and respiratory diseases. It’s overwhelming to read about the air pollution taking place not only in our atmosphere but in our own homes and offices. The air in our homes are statistically 5-50% more toxic than the air outside.

The average home contains many things that contaminate the air. There are VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) which out-gas for many years from items like new furniture, carpet & padding, upholstery, drapery, and paneling among others. If you have particle board furniture or cabinets then you have formaldehyde out-gassing. Toxic gasses are also released from plastics, heated non-stick cookware, tap water, dry-cleaned clothes, mattresses, stain and flame repellents, "wrinkle-resistant" fabrics.. etc. We use chemical cleaners and personal products that are also affecting our air quality. (bleach, detergents, paint thinner, caulk, glue, lacquer, degreasers, spray paint, turpentine, lighter fluid, antimicrobial soap, antiperspirants, perfumes, air freshners, insecticides, body and hair products, toilet cleaners, gasoline, disinfectant, floor wax, furniture polish, oven cleaner) We get carbon monoxide from stoves. We have dust mites living in our furniture. We have mold and mildew growing under our sinks and in our showers. There is bacteria floating all around us. Some homes have lead based paint, smoke and other contaminants. The list is virtually endless and all these things pollute the air we breathe.

So what can we do to get pure air in our homes? One of the best ways, which happens to be the most economical, is to fill your home with green plants. Spider plants and philodendrons are among the best, although all plants will help purify the air and release oxygen. Another great way to ensure pure air is to get an air filtration system. There are numerous ones on the market, but beware of those that claim to use ionic filtration. HEPA filters are generally better, but changing the filters can be expensive. Check out the new system from waterwise, it works remarkably to purify the air without expensive filter replacements. If you can’t afford a filtration system, leave your windows open to get some fresh air traveling through your home. And, if you’re lucky enough to have an oxygen bar where you live, take advantage of it. Keeping pure air coming into your lungs will benefit your entire body.
